Welcome to the new locality of Parsons Beach
1 September 2017
The coastal settlement known as Parsons Beach on Yorke Peninsula’s west coast will be officially recognised as a stand-alone locality.
The Yorke Peninsula Council, in conjunction with the Office of the Surveyor–General, Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure’s (DPTI), has changed the locality boundary of Minlaton to create the new locality of Parsons Beach.
This means that by using the locality name of Parsons Beach residents and ratepayers gain improved identity, which leads to more reliable delivery of parcels and post, allows family and friends clarity in navigation to an address and most importantly, unambiguous property identification by emergency services.
The new boundaries of the locality of Parsons Beach will be formed by Parsons Beach Road, Mount Terrible Road, Watson Beach Road and the foreshore.
See the map showing the new locality boundary of Parsons Beach.
Following six weeks of community consultation last year by the Yorke Peninsula Council, a majority of residents supported the submission for the area to be formally recognised as the new locality of Parsons Beach.
Consultation and the boundary change is the result of council identifying that the settlement of Parsons Beach has never been gazetted as a locality in itself, rather it was included as portion of the locality of Minlaton.
The alteration to existing boundaries will require residents and businesses to change their address details from Minlaton SA to Parsons Beach SA on business websites, letterheads and signage and to advise utilities and other relevant organisations.
Our department will coordinate the name changes required for the Lands Titles Office and the suburbs, postcode and address databases.
Details of the name change were gazetted in the South Australian Government Gazette on 5 September 2017.
