O-Bahn City Access Project - Linear Park reopens to cyclists and pedestrians
30 June 2017
The River Torrens Linear Park is set to reopen at Hackney Bridge later today following major construction works on the two bridges over the River Torrens.
Major construction works to widen the Hackney Bridge to create a dedicated bus lane, freeing up more space for other vehicles, forced the closure of the linear park for the safety and welfare of cyclists and pedestrians.
The Hackney Bridge widening works involved strengthening the underside of the bridge structure.
The widening works in March this year involved placing 35m3 of concrete and six tonnes of new reinforcement supplied using high quality steel billet from the Whyalla steelworks.
The path closure also enabled the construction of a new shared use pedestrian and cycling bridge over the River Torrens which will link to a new dedicated path on the western side of Hackney Road between Bundeys and Botanic roads. The new shared use pedestrian and cycling bridge is set to open in coming weeks.
We thank people who use the path for their patience during these important works, which are not only increasing the capacity of one of our busiest city roads but have also enabled the construction of a new bridge to improve safety and access for pedestrians and cyclists.
