National Walk Safely to School Day
17 May 2017
Get your walking shoes on this Friday, 19 May 2017, for National Walk Safely to School Day and make important steps towards a healthier future.
Now in its 18th year, National Walk Safely to School Day (WSTSD) is an annual event encouraging all primary school children to walk and commute safely to school not just on the national day, but every day.
The community event aims to raise awareness of the health, road safety, transport and environmental benefits that regular walking can provide for children’s long-term well-being. The event also promotes reduced car-dependency, greater use of public transport and builds a sense of community while providing children the opportunity to learn how to cross roads safely
If you live a long distance away from school, try parking the car 10 minutes away and then walk. Adults need to supervise children under 10 years old by holding hands when near or crossing roads.
