Closure of part of North Terrace for major events at Adelaide Oval

CONNECT - Message from the Chief Executive

4 April 2017

As a public safety measure, the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) will be closing North Terrace between King William Street and Victoria Street (just before the Convention Centre) for major events at Adelaide Oval.

North Terrace will be closed 15 minutes prior to the end of major events (including AFL matches), which will allow for the safe pedestrian movements from Adelaide Oval into the city and for passengers boarding the trams at the Adelaide Railway Station tram stop for a safe trip home.

Trams and Adelaide Metro bus services will be permitted through the area under traffic controller and SAPOL supervision.

This is being done by DPTI with the cooperation of SAPOL, the City of Adelaide and the Stadium Management Authority.

This measure was trialled after the Adele concert in March 2017, which drew more than 70,000 spectators, and the department is satisfied it is a necessary measure to ensure safety of pedestrians following a major event.
