Mitcham sporting clubs score a new kitchen
30 September 2016
A $20 000 grant from the Office for Recreation and Sport (ORS) has provided much-needed funds to complete a top-notch upgrade of the Price Memorial Oval kitchen, proving a hit with members of the Sturt District Cricket Club and Mitcham Football Clubs.
The high profile Mitcham sporting clubs were delighted to have their application for an ORS Active Club Grant approved to complete the upgrade to their club kitchen which had significant health, safety and operational shortcomings, with no significant work undertaken on the kitchen for over 20 years.
The City of Mitcham, as the landlord, also provided $10,000 to the clubs to ensure the work met healthy and safety standards, and a total of 300 hours amounting to $12 000 were volunteered, with local sponsors and trades people donating over $10 000 in materials and other support to help carry out the upgrade.
The kitchen provides critical off field support to the nine cricket teams and 15 football sides that call the oval home.
A centre of local activity all year round, the upgrade has enabled the clubs to provide better services and improve fundraising efforts benefiting club members, volunteers and the local community.
Ongoing funding through the State Government’s Active Club Grant Program means South Australians can continue to access quality recreation and sport activities and facilities, and enjoy the many social, health and lifestyle benefits this brings.
Applications for the next round of grants closes 10 October 2016. To find out more visit the ORS website.
