Plans in motion for stage one of the EastLINK tram
5 July 2016
$50 million in funding for the first stage of the AdeLINK tram network to the city’s East End has been committed as part of this year’s state budget.
The budget commitment will deliver a one-kilometre extension along North Terrace, from King William Street to East Terrace, featuring three new stops servicing the universities and the Old Royal Adelaide Hospital site.
The investment will provide a new service to the bustling East End shopping, restaurant and tourism precinct, while further invigorating the city’s cultural and education boulevard.
The extension forms Stage One of EastLINK, with future stages planned to the eastern suburbs through Kent Town to the eastern suburbs.
The extension also is the first step in the CityLINK loop around the CBD.
A $4 million business case is already underway to identify precise routes and stops, as well as environmental and land value benefits, and project cost estimates.
