Upgrade for Oodnadatta track

26 May 2016

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that upgrade works on a section of the Oodnadatta Track are currently underway.

The works include the formation and resheeting of 50 kilometres of unsealed road on the Oodnadatta Track between Oodnadatta and William Creek.

This important upgrade will improve ride quality and safety for road users including local pastoralists, heavy vehicles and tourists and will assist this section of road to drain during wet weather events.

DPTI will make every effort to minimise the impact on road users. The works will be undertaken between 7.00am and 5.00pm on weekdays and weekends, over 18 day blocks with 10 day breaks, until completed.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of May 2017, weather permitting.

The $3.46 million upgrade is funded by the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery Programme.

DPTI thanks motorists for their patience while these important works are carried out.
