Safety to be improved on Murray Bridge, Mallee and Riverland roads

25 February 2016

Sections of seven roads in the Riverland, Murray Mallee and Murray Bridge will be resealed improving safety and extending the life of each road.

The roads projects included in the works will be:

 Ridley Road – approximately 7km south of Punthari for 2.5 kilometres

 Mannum Road – approximately 22km south of Mannum for 3 kilometres

 Jervois Road – approximately 14km south of Murray Bridge for 2.1 kilometres

 Mallee Highway – approximately 8km east of Lameroo for one kilometre

 Berri to Loxton Road – approximately 10km south of Berri for one kilometre

 Paruna Road – 2.9 kilometres from Loxton

 Goyder Highway – 1.1 kilometres near Taylorville

The $765,000 project will be funded by the State Government’s Periodic Road Maintenance and Critical Road Maintenance programs.

The Critical Road Maintenance Program is part of a $110 million initiative announced in last year’s State Budget to improve road safety and maintenance.

More than 185 upgrades will be funded by the four-year stimulus package, creating more than 300 jobs.

$71.5 million of this $110 million will be spent in regional areas and when combined with our ongoing periodic programs, amounts to more than $532 million for road safety and maintenance over the forward estimates, with $341 million going to the regions.

Workers will be on-site from 7.00am to 5.30pm seven days a week with 25kmh speed restrictions in place for their safety.

Weather permitting, the roadworks are expected to be completed by late March 2016.
