Essential Belair Line works deliver multiple improvements

30 December 2015

DPTI thanks the local community and rail customers for their patience and understanding over the past four days as the Belair train line was closed for essential works.

While the department acknowledges that the works caused disruption to local people, a great deal has been achieved over a short period to make the line better and secure the longer term future of this essential service.

Works included embankment stabilisation at Coromandel with additional removal of vegetation, signal and communication cable testing, and also civil works at three level crossings in preparation for cable replacement.

Painting of the Sleeps Hill and Eden Hills tunnels was completed as planned, with additional substantial graffiti removed from various locations, and all maze safety lines and platform white and yellow lines repainted.

These works were needed to maintain the long term usage and safety of the Belair line, with the Christmas period chosen to reduce inconvenience to the public with many commuters on holiday.

This work will deliver better train services as well as contributing to bushfire prevention measures around the rail line.

DPTI also reminds customers that there will be full length closures of the Seaford Line on January 2 and 3 followed by partial closure between Brighton and Seaford from January 4 to 25. Full details at
