Marine Safety Feature at Boat Show

More than 150 people took the opportunity to sit a boat licence exam at the SA Boat and Fishing Show last weekend.

DPTI Marine Safety Officers attended the SA Boat and Fishing show on 23 – 25 October to convey a message of safety to boaters.

Fine weather saw huge crowds attending, and of those who sat their boat licence exam there was a record high pass rate of 97%.

Information screens at the stand were crowded by candidates keen to learn for the exams and this was reflected by the good success rate.

Marine Coordinator Phil Moffatt was keen to remind all that the exam is not the end of a boaters responsibility.

“We made it clear to patrons that the test requires a good level of knowledge, to make sure that boat operators know what to do to stay safe. These boaters have now been tested on their knowledge of boating safety rules, but they need to retain the knowledge so that they can operate safely on the water. If a person takes their family or friends out boating, then they are the responsible person and need to remember all of the rules”
