Second Stage of Karoonda Highway Intersection Safety Upgrade to Commence
28 August 2015
The works will include finalisation of the staggered T-junctions to improve the requirement to give-way on the Boundary Road approaches to the Karoonda Highway. It will also include construction of individual right-turn lanes on the Karoonda Highway into Boundary Road reducing the risk of rear-end and right-angle crashes.
Stage one of the upgrade was completed in April 2015, which included preliminary construction works consisting of vegetation clearance and earthworks of the new Boundary Road approaches.
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) will make every effort to minimise the impact on road users during works. The road will remain open to traffic with minor lane restrictions in place.
The work will be undertaken between 7.00 am and 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday. A 25 km/h speed restriction will apply when workers are on site. Other speed restrictions may apply subject to onsite conditions.
The entire upgrade is expected to be completed by November 2015, weather permitting. The $1.3 million project is funded by the Motor Accident Commission.
DPTI thanks motorists for their patience while these important safety works are carried out.
