Safety First at Cudlee Creek and Fox Creek Road Junction

South Australia’s first trial of transverse line marking is now in place at Cudlee Creek and Fox Creek Road junction in Cudlee Creek to improve safety for motorists.
Transverse line marking is an innovative road safety measure used at intersections to improve road delineation for controlling traffic flow.
The initiative aims to help reduce the speed of westbound vehicles on Cudlee Creek Road approaching the junction.
The skid resistant line marking is painted along 150 metres of Cudlee Creek Road westbound carriageway before the Fox Creek Road junction and extending for 100 metres in length.
Cudlee Creek Road, at the Fox Creek Road junction, has a history of casualty crashes, as a result of vehicles turning right from Fox Creek Road into Cudlee Creek Road.
Between 2008 and 2012 there were four casualty crashes at this location.
By reducing the speed of motorists along Cudlee Creek Road this allows drivers more time to react to any vehicle attempting to turn right from Fox Creek Road.
The concept of transverse line markings originated in New Zealand where research is ongoing.
The initiative will be trialled for six months to evaluate its effectiveness in reducing traffic speeds at the junction.
This trial forms part of South Australia’s Road Safety Strategy 2020 Towards Zero Together and is funded under the Responsive Road Safety program.'
