Lower Eyre Peninsula overtaking lanes now complete
Thursday, 25 May 2023
Four new overtaking lanes on the lower Eyre Peninsula, north of Port Lincoln, are now open to traffic without any restrictions following the completion of all construction works.
The overtaking lanes form part of a jointly funded, $51.25 million commitment to Eyre Peninsula roads, to which the Australian Government has committed $41 million and the South Australian Government $10.25 million under the Roads of Strategic Importance (ROSI) initiative.
The new overtaking lanes are located on:
- Lincoln Highway (southbound), near Schramms Road south of Tumby Bay.
- Lincoln Highway (northbound), near Louth Bay.
- Western Approach Road (southbound), at the junction with Pine Freezers Road, near Port Lincoln.
- Flinders Highway (southbound), at the junction with Tod Highway.
The southbound Lincoln Highway overtaking lane, south of Tumby Bay, has been open to traffic since late 2021, however road surface repairs have recently been completed.
The other three overtaking lanes opened to traffic in mid-2022 but were later closed by the contractor due to issues with the bitumen following adverse weather conditions.
These works are now complete and traffic restrictions have been lifted at each overtaking lane.
All four lanes have now returned to their signposted 110 km/h speed limit.
The local community has been thanked for their patience and co-operation while these important works were undertaken.
