One overtaking lane down, one to go on Long Valley Road
Wednesday, 3 May 2023
Road safety improvements continue to flow on Long Valley Road in the Adelaide Hills, with a new overtaking lane to open to traffic this week and work on another commencing in coming weeks.
Main construction will be completed and open to traffic this week on a new southbound overtaking lane on Long Valley Road, from the rail crossing to south of Gemmell Road, and associated junction upgrades at Gemmell Road and Stirling Hill Road.
The new southbound overtaking lane is located directly adjacent an existing northbound overtaking lane.
Work will soon be undertaken on a second southbound overtaking lane further south on Long Valley Road. It is located about 1.5 kilometres north of Long Valley Cottage Road.
Vegetation removals will begin in coming weeks in preparation for main construction work to follow soon after.
The two new southbound overtaking lanes will improve road safety for all road users, increase and enhance freight connectivity and reduce the risk of serious and fatal injury crashes along Long Valley Road, which stretches between Wistow and Strathalbyn.
