Contract awarded for O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp upgrade
Friday, 3 March 2023
A South Australian firm has been awarded a contract for the design and construction of works to upgrade the O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp.
The upgrades, which will ensure the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp is safe and accessible, have been included in the government’s Marine Stimulus Package.
Port Adelaide-based Maritime Constructions Pty Ltd has been awarded the contract to carry out the project, which will improve the operational use of the site by reducing congestion during peak periods and improving access and safety for launching boats.
The project will involve replacing and upgrading the current four-lane boat ramp launching facility, inclusive of the two existing pontoons and pontoon guide piles, and constructing an additional boat ramp lane and pontoon.
Other improvements include widening the vehicle manoeuvring area, access improvements for people living with a disability, replacing the upper sections of the concrete ramps and undertaking protection works to extend the structural integrity and serviceable life of the facility.
Major works are expected to commence on-site next month, to ensure there will be no impact to peak summer recreational season activities. The project is expected to be completed late 2023.
To enable works to be completed safely and as quickly as possible, the O’Sullivan Beach Boat Ramp and main carpark will be closed for recreational use from commencement of construction to project completion. Boat ramp access will be maintained for emergency services if required.
Alternative launch points will be available at the West Beach Boat Ramp and Port Noarlunga Beach Ramp.
