Making a splash! Work to being on new Port Augusta swimming pontoon
Friday, 24 February 2023
Port Augusta locals can look forward to fun in the water at the Eastern Foreshore with the construction of a new swimming pontoon to start soon.
The South Australian Government is providing $1 million in funding for construction of the pontoon, which will be constructed to the western side of the new Joy Baluch AM Bridge, to replace the old T-Jetty.
Concept images of the eagerly awaited jetty and floating pontoon have been released by the State Government today.
Work on the site commenced on 8 February 2023.
The former T-jetty was demolished in 2019, following an investigation that found that the timber piles of the 1881-built structure were severely deteriorated and could not be repaired.
The new swimming pontoon will feature a 35-metre jetty, then a 20-metre gangway to the 22-metre floating platform. Four ladders will allow easy access to and from the water.
Construction of the swimming pontoon is expected to be complete in April 2023.
