River Murray flood update: Closure of Mannum Ferry Passenger Service and Wellington Ferry
Wednesday, 28 December 2022
Closure of Burdett Road/Hunter Road Junction and Mannum Ferry Passenger Service
Due to rapidly rising floodwaters and an evacuation notice being issued by the SES, the Burdett Road/Hunter Road junction, Mannum is closed to all traffic. This includes the closure of Burdett Road, from the junction to north of 2076 Burdett Road, Cowirra and Hunter Road, from the junction to just west of the East Front Road/Hunter Road junction.
A detour route connecting Burdett Road via Cross Road and Burt Road to the Hunter Road east of the Hunter Road/Burt Road junction has been installed.
As a result of this closure, the free Mannum passenger ferry service will stop from 12:30pm today. The Department for Infrastructure and Transport is working with local operator, Four Knots Murray River Cruises, to ensure all passengers utilising the service reach their point of origin prior to its closure. Bus services supporting the ferry service will continue until after the last service.
Ferry services will recommence once water recedes, and a risk assessment has been completed confirming it is safe to do so.
Closure of Ferry Road and Wellington Ferry
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport advises that Ferry Road, Wellington East will be closed at 12pm today, Wednesday, 28 December due to rising water levels.
As a result, the Wellington Ferry will be closed.
Alternative river crossing is the Tailem Bend Ferry.
Ferry Road and the Wellington Ferry will remain available for emergency and service authority vehicles.
The Department is continuing to closely monitor water levels to keep ferries operating for as long as it is safe to do so, however some services may need to be closed at short notice.
