Information on oil and gas regulation

Thursday, 16 August 2018

The Department of Planning Transport and Infrastructure is set to release a revised version of its Protecting Our Waters brochure, outlining its role in oil spill prevention and remediation.

This will be followed up with Information sessions next week addressing the important topic of how gas exploration and production in the Great Australian Bight is regulated, who does the regulating and what is done to limit environmental and safety risks.

DPTI is the Control Agency for oil pollution in state waters and ensures the South Australian Marine Spill Contingency Action Plan is maintained to deal with oil spills wherever they occur in its territory.

Offshore Oil and Gas Drop-in Sessions will bring together seven federal and state government authorities that all play a role in managing coastal and offshore areas, and the oil and gas industry.

Sessions will be held in Adelaide, Port Lincoln, Victor Harbor and Kingscote on 20 -22 August.

Anyone who is interested in how the system works and how they can have their say on oil and gas activities is welcome to attend the drop-in sessions.
