Notice to Mariners No 59 of 2022 (Temporary)
Wednesday, 28 December 2022
HARBORS AND NAVIGATION ACT 1993
SOUTH AUSTRALIA — FLINDERS PORT HOLDINGS – AIDS TO NAVIGATION
Flinders Port Holdings would like to provide information on the Aids to Navigation while navigating in South Australian waters. Not all Aids to Navigation have the same design and therefore some of the beacon lights may be obscured when navigating near or in close proximity to these Aids to Navigation.
Many of the old design Aids to Navigation have an all-round light at the top of the beacon, while some of the newer Aids to Navigation do not. Some of newer design beacons have the all-round light located at the base of the platform. For some smaller vessels this may result in the all-round light being obscured when approaching the beacon.
Flinders Port Holdings will endeavour to rectify this design in the near future.
Aids to Navigation in the ports of Thevenard and Port Pirie have the newer design beacons.
All mariners are requested to navigate with extreme caution when approach these Aids to Navigation in the main shipping channels and approaches.
