On the 22 May 2015, The Transport and Infrastructure Council (TIC) endorsed the development of a Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) in July 2015; and to prioritising the progression of particular elements to improve heavy vehicle road safety. The TIC has also agreed to bring forward consideration of a package of measures to expedite national consistency and compliance improvements for decision in November 2015. The package will include measures regarding chain of responsibility duties for vehicle maintenance and scheduled inspections with the intention of implementing improvements as soon as possible. | medium term (13) |
10 | Implement annual heavy vehicle inspections as part of annual registration (CR14) Heavy Vehicle inspections on periodic and frequent basis. | The option for annual inspections is being considered at a national level, associated with the NTC/NHVR Roadworthiness Review Project. Refer Option 8. SA can increase vehicle inspections to target high risk vehicle types independently of the outcome of the RIS.
