Oodnadatta Track Formation works and Floodway Construction
We’re undertaking works within an 80km section of the Oodnadatta Track between Marla and Oodnadatta to ensure it can remain open or reopen earlier after rain events. The project is jointly funded by the Australian and South Australian governments.
What’s happening:
Early works have begun to reform 41km of the Oodnadatta Track between Marla and Oodnadatta and construct five new major floodways (see map below). Each of the floodways will be reconstructed, reinforced with cement, and sealed to enable vehicles to better access the track after rain events. Formation works will raise the surface level of the track in some sections to allow the road to remain open or be reopened sooner after rain events.
Project timing
Works are being undertaken from Monday 8 January 2024 until mid-2024 (weather permitting)
Working hours are between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Sunday.
How this affects you:
The track will remain open, however, to do this work safely we’ll have speed and lane restrictions throughout work areas. Outside of working hours speed restrictions will be in place throughout work areas. Please plan your trips, be cautious around workers, and follow the speed limits and signs.
