Kangaroo Island
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (the Department) is undertaking a number of upgrades and improvements on and near Kangaroo Island.
Kangaroo Island is a 4400km2 island in the Great Australian Bight to the south west of the Fleurieu Peninsula, known for its nature based tourism. It has a local population of over 4300 people, and an annual visitor count of 140,000 people per year.
Key infrastructure upgrades on and around Kangaroo Island are critical to driving economic success and increasing connectivity, creating new opportunities for tourism and fostering sustainable growth on the island.

- Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island Ports Upgrade
The upgrade of the Cape Jervis and Penneshaw ports will deliver improved access for passengers and vehicles.
- Kangaroo Island Road Safety and Bushfire Resilience Package
The upgrades will improve road safety and freight productivity, with work to include road widening, shoulder sealing and minor intersection improvements
- Fleurieu and Kangaroo Island Transport Study
A transport study for the Fleurieu Peninsula and Kangaroo Island will be undertaken shortly. This will inform future transport planning and investment in the region.
- Master Planning for Harbour Precincts
The development of a Master Plan for both Cape Jervis and Penneshaw are discussed in greater detail.
