Brighton Road Intersection Upgrades
The Australian and South Australian governments have committed $30 million (50:50) to Brighton Road Intersection Improvements.
Brighton Road/Ocean Boulevard and Scholefield Road junction
We will be installing new traffic signals at the junction of Brighton Road/Ocean Boulevard and Scholefield Road to improve safety for vehicles accessing the arterial road network as well as pedestrians and cyclists.
The new traffic signals will maintain a consistent and reliable level of service and safe access to the arterial road network for residents already living in Seacliff, Kingston Park and Marino. The signals will also support the new Seacliff Village development, which is proposed to provide approximately 700 new dwellings, as well as a new town centre adjacent to Scholefield Road which will include new medical and shopping centres (approximately 6,000m2 in size).
Brighton Road currently carries approximately 37,000 vehicles a day, Ocean Boulevard carries around 32,000 vehicles a day and Scholefield Road carries around 7,000 vehicles a day. Traffic modelling for the development indicates that, once the entire development is complete, traffic volumes on Scholefield Road are anticipated to increase by an estimated 4,000 vehicles each day.
Next Steps
Design development for Brighton Road/Ocean Boulevard and Scholefield Road will continue throughout 2025, with construction anticipated to commence in approximately mid-2026. Completion is expected in early 2027.
We look forward to connecting with the community in the coming months to share more information and seek feedback to help inform the detailed design. To stay up to date please register to receive project updates via the project website.
Brighton Road and Edwards Street junction
We completed major works in August 2024 for the Brighton Road and Edwards Street junction at South Brighton in Adelaide’s southwest, improving road safety and public transport efficiency.
The project included the installation of traffic lights, a signalised pedestrian and a cyclist crossing to improve accessibility and enhance safety for everyone using the road.
As well as improving pedestrian and cyclist safety, the upgrades will ease congestion through this busy intersection as well as the surrounding area, reducing frustration for local residents and businesses.
