DPTI Matters - 31 January 2020

A word from the Chief Executive

E-scooter extension

DPTI staff did some outstanding work to get the trial of e-scooters in the CBD underway some time back and recently they’ve done even more to allow for an expansion of the potential transport solution.

From tomorrow (1 February, 2020), the Adelaide CBD trial area for e-scooters will be expanded to include North Adelaide.

The State Government has partnered with the City of Adelaide on the trial, which offers first and last mile transport solutions for people travelling around the city.

You can view details of the expanded area here.

Darlington milestone

The Darlington Project had some great successes during January, including the opening of the roadway under the Tonsley Bridge to southbound traffic.

This important milestone sits right alongside the Flinders Link girder installation over the lowered motorway Southern Expressway and Main South Road, which we recently reported on.

Both of these projects are due to be completed later this year.

Bushfire recovery

Efforts to help communities and individuals affected by the recent bushfires in the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island are continuing as people turn their focus to recovery and rebuilding.

The SA Bushfire Appeal has so far raised more than $4.49 million from 10,400 donations, including $2 million from the State Government and corporate donations. Financial donations are the best way to help disaster-affected communities recover, as this lets people buy exactly what they need and spend locally.

You can make a tax-deductible donation online, via cheque, or in person at any Commonwealth Bank branch.

You can also ‘Like’ the SA Bushfire Appeal Facebook page to donate via Facebook, or visit the SA Bushfire Appeal website.

T20 Showdown

It’s great that DPTI can play its part in another fundraiser for people affected by the bushfires, through the Bushfire T20 Showdown at Adelaide Oval this Sunday.

Adelaide Metro will provide free bus, train and tram transport for people travelling to and from the match between Adelaide Crows and Port Power players alongside some top-notch international cricketers.

Extra services will also be provided to help as many people as possible to attend the game.

Friday Flashback

Thanks to the Procurement and Contracting team for letting us know they’d like to see something from the Milk Carton Regatta in Friday Flashback. As luck would have it we stumbled across this image showing the event on the Patawalonga in the mid ’80s.
