More really chilly conditions in the metro area this week.

SAFETY

The Darlington Upgrade Project has introduced a Truck Mounted Attenuator (TMA) as part of its ongoing continuous improvement focus on safety.
TMAs provide impact protection to workers and vehicles through the application of an impact attenuator, or crash cushion, mounted on the host vehicle.
They are deployed to protect short to medium term maintenance or construction works where it is not practical to close the road or install safety barriers for the protection of our personnel.

Safety was front of mind for our Field Services team as well. They had a safety day, which included a range of interactive workshops targeting the top safety risks of the section.
A powerful message reinforcing choices for safety was presented by James Wood, who was involved in a workplace injury.

As of midnight on Thursday, September 7 there had been 69 fatalities on South Australian roads so far this year.

RAPID RESPONSE

Well done to all involved in responding so quickly and effectively after the collision between a car and one of our trains on the Seaford line near the Emerson Station on Wednesday.
It was great to see different areas of our department working together to minimise the disruptions for our customers, with a special mention to Sam Brown and her team for organising substitute buses in trying circumstances.

CAPITAL INVESTMENTS

Our department this week put out on Expression of Interest for a bundle of works including improvements to the Lobethal freight route and Sturt Highway bridges and other bridges.
This is part of our new way of modernising our procurement practices and collaborating more closely with industry, which aims to deliver works more quickly and efficiently as well as encouraging more work for South Australian workers and businesses.

YOUTH EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Well done to all the winners at the Youth Excellence Awards:  Hannah Watchman (Emerging Leader), Martin Elsworthy (Customer Service), Travis Kreslin (Innovation), Nicklas Abel (Excellence), Shahzad Khan (Safety) and Monira Osman (Culture).
Our department’s first Youth Excellence Awards were a great success, with an impressive 86 nominations, showcasing our next generation of leaders.

R U OK?

Next Thursday is R U OK? Day, a national day of action which encourages us all to look out for each other by asking the simple but powerful question: “Are you OK?” Details on how you can be involved here.
On Sunday, motorcyclists are encouraged to take part in the ‘Ride Against Suicide’ which aims to raise funds for organisations working to prevent suicide, which is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15 to 44. Details here.
