A Friday Note - 28 August 2015

Dear all,
It’s great to be back in Adelaide, and while we are starting to see some warmer days there have been record cases of Influenza this winter.
If you are feeling flu-like symptoms please see a medical practitioner to have yourself checked, stay home and rest up.
Thanks to Andrew McKeegan for acting as CEO and Paul Gelston for acting as Commissioner for Highways and Railways while I was on leave. My four weeks’ off has reinforced to me the value of having a break. If you don’t have something booked and have accumulated some leave then have a think about what you could do.
Engineers Australia here in Adelaide have created a body focussed on indigenous employment opportunities. Occasionally I am unable to attend the meetings so looking for a volunteer from one of our younger engineer group as back up. Please let me know if you are interested.
TALKING ABOUT TRANSPORT
There’s been a lot going on recently in the area of transport. Yesterday saw the release of the O-Bahn Project Impact Report which addressed issues raised during community consultation. People are also responding to Operation Moving Traffic with tips to help reduce congestion, and next week the first community Transport Forum will provide an opportunity for the public to find out more about the Government’s transport plans.
We are really getting out there and listening to the community. This approach will help ensure we continue to deliver the improvements and provide the services that people want.
REJUVENATION
Through the transition process approximately 1770 people have been placed into like for like roles. Check the DPTI broadcast exchange for expressions of interests for vacancies after the fenced call process has taken place. Accommodation moves look like they’re tracking as scheduled; make yourself familiar with fire exits and placement of the first aid kits when you arrive at a new location.
WELL DONE
Footy Express
A big well done to rail and bus operations staff led by Robert Stopp and Michelle Spagnoletti for getting thousands of footy fans to and from last Saturday’s Crows game.
Saturday night was a massive collaborative effort from planning, operations, security and customer experience under challenging circumstances and it was great to see the teams bonding and working together to get the best outcome for our customers.
Asset team thinks big
Our Facilities Services Port Pirie Regional office, led by Simon Harley recently delivered to the Department of Education and Child Development (DECD) a re-roofed Port Broughton Area School - the largest value DECD funded asset performance assessment feasibility project in the state at over $950,000.
The project will mean Port Broughton Area School see out the next 30 plus years without any major concerns about leaks due to the single span roof sheet design. Great work.
Have a good weekend.
