A Friday note - 9 January 2015
Mother Nature seems to be giving it her all this week as we battle fires and possible flooding across the state.
We have numerous staff directly impacted by both the Tantanoola and Sampson Flat fires, be that personally or through their work with recovery efforts. I cannot stress enough both the obvious need to take personal safety precautions in and around the fire grounds, but also in fatigue management. Ensure your teams are adequately staffed and are getting appropriate rest and breaks.
It is important to note, and Vicki Seaman issued an email this week, advising of leave provisions available to staff to assist family, friends and volunteer efforts. That email also contained details for staff requiring assistance and support and details are on the intranet.
Our department is changing. Building on the work that started last year towards a more efficient and more customer-focused department, I look forward to working with you. I thank for your work and enthusiasm to date. Please remember there will be staff who need support.
The DPTI Rejuvenation Consultative Forum (RCF) has been established as a sub-group of the DPTI Consultative Forum (DCF). The purpose of the RCF is to facilitate information exchange, open discussion and consultation between employer and employee representatives (which includes applicable unions and employee associations) regarding the departmental rejuvenation process.
I thank those who have been involved in efforts around the fires to date – the work that has been done in the period is phenomenal. There is still a lot of work to be done and we need to be absolutely certain that it is done in the safest manner possible.
Well done to Dani Pollard from Finance who has cracked her $1m debt recovery target – she’s now set herself a $2m target.
Great work within Land Services with the completion late last year of the Rural Addressing Project ensuring every property in the state has a consistent address in line with national standards. No small feat.
Also last year, 10 staff graduated from the Public Sector Management Program through Flinders University. Congratulations to: Jody Atkins, Anikke Bukowski, Juanita Chester, Michael Davis (High Achiever Award recipient), Mark Delaney, Jodie Evans, Morgan Mifsud, Liam Nicholls, Bona Tan and Kathy Tapley.
While recent events have taken over, I’d like to thank those who worked over the holiday period – our public transport personnel, our Traffic Management Centre staff, as well as others working to keep our transport moving and our people safe. The efforts of these staff often go unrecognised.
