Say something

If you think a family member is taking risks when driving, talk to them.

Risks can cause accidents and people getting hurt or worse. Examples of risks include:

  • speeding
  • drink-driving
  • carrying too many passengers
  • using a mobile phone while driving.

Encourage your family and friends to drive safely at all times. Ask them to think about what it would mean to their family, friends and community if someone they knew was injured or died in an accident.

If they’re drinking, suggest they sleep it off, and sober up before driving home. If they’re going out for a big night, ask them to leave the car at home, or make arrangements to stay at a friend’s place.

It’s not always easy to talk about your worries with a family member, but it’s important to do what you can to help them be safe when they drive.
