Road upgrade begins near Clare
The first stage of the $10.23 million upgrade to realign Main North Road and Black Rock-Clare Road near Clare will begin this week.
Because of the strategic nature of this transport route, works are being undertaken in four stages:
• Stage One Main North Road and Black Rock-Clare Road Junction
• Stage Two Black Rock-Clare Road and Anama Lane Junction
• Stage Three Anama Lane upgrade
• Stage Four Main North Road and Anama Lane Junction
The project will help move traffic off the winding, undulating section of Main North Road onto a route incorporating an upgraded Anama Lane.
It will also improve safety and freight efficiency on this important section of the northern arterial road network..
The first stage of construction works, commencing this week, will include alterations to the junction layout, pavement upgrades and re-surfacing to provide a smoother ride for motorists.
These stage one works are expected to be completed by June 2012, with the remainder of the stages expected to be completed by March 2013, weather permitting.
These upgrades follow the successful negotiation of a road swap with the Clare and Gilbert Valleys Council which will see the council take responsibility for a 7.6km section of Main North Road (between the Black Rock – Clare Road junction and Anama Lane), while the State Government will assume responsibility of Anama Lane.
This $10.23 million project is funded by the State Government’s Rural Freight Improvement Program and the Responsive Road Safety and Transport System Responsiveness Programs.
