South Australians are being reminded of meetings being held in Millicent, Victor Harbor and Kangaroo Island this week to inform the community and seek feedback on a range of options to manage recreational fishing.
The meetings will provide the community with further information on three key documents released to the public earlier this month. Meeting dates as follows:
The documents include the Draft management plan for recreational fishing in South Australia; a Review of size, bag and boat limits in South Australia’s recreational fishing sector, marine and freshwater; and Management options for King George Whiting in South Australia.
Representatives from PIRSA and SARDI will be on-hand to listen to community views and answer any questions related to the management options that have been proposed.
PIRSA Manager Fisheries Policy & Management Unit, Alice Fistr, said the meetings will provide an important opportunity for the State Government to discuss proposed changes with the community.
"We invite the community to attend this week’s meetings and have their say on the future management of our recreational fishing industry – an important aspect of life in South Australia," Ms Fistr said.
"These documents will inform management arrangements needed to ensure long-term sustainability and equitable sharing of fish populations that support our important recreational fishery."
Community consultation is underway and open for submissions until Friday, 29 April 2016.
