Dredging at the O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp

16 Jun 2014

Boaters are advised that maintenance dredging at the O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp will commence on Monday 16 June 2014 until August 2014, weather permitting.

The O’Sullivan Beach boat ramp regularly undergoes dredging every three to five years to remove the large amount of excess sand and dead seagrass material build up.

The maintenance dredging improves the safety of the passage for vessels.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) and the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) have been working together to determine the best method to discharge the excess sand and dead seagrass to minimise impacts to the environment and the local community.

The material will be disposed onto the beach foreshore approximately 140 metres south of the boat ramp.

The maintenance works will be carried out 24 hours a day, 6 days a week with no work occurring on Sundays.

During the maintenance works the boat ramp will still be accessible, however boaters are advised to make themselves fully aware of the dredge and associated equipment when navigating to and from the boat ramp.

In the interest of public safety, the area immediately adjacent the point of discharge will be barricaded off and advisory signage will be in place.
