First read boat ramp signs

28 Nov 2011

Restricted areas Before taking off for a day on the water, you should take a few minutes to read the signs next to the boat ramp to ensure you don’t run foul of the law.

Signage next to each boat ramp in South Australia gives information on speed limits in the immediate area and any restrictions and issues that you must be aware of.

For example, the sign at the Sturt Reserve Boat Ramp in Murray Bridge gives details of parts of the River Murray that are restricted to motorised vessels and where a 4 knot limit applies.

Safety Compliance Officers that regularly patrol these waters take a dim view of boaters that don’t bother to read or ignore the signs.

Failure to comply with these regulations can result in a fine of up to $1250.

A map of all of South Australia’s boat ramps is available online.
