Complexities in the works on the Birkenhead Bridge will mean the bascule spans will remain closed to vessels until 22 April.
Vessels low enough to pass under the bridge will be permitted to do so, except between 9.00am to 3.00pm on 14 April 2014 to 17 April 2014.
The works will provide a cycling and walking path over the bridge as part of the new Loop Path that runs along the Port foreshore to the north and south.
Due to the complexities of the existing structure and inclement weather the project will take a little longer than initially expected.
The bascule spans have been closed to vessels since Tuesday 7 January.
If it is possible for the Bridge to be opened earlier notification will be provided.
From 22 April 2014 at the completion of these works, requests to open the bascule spans can be made by telephone 1800 018 313 or by using call sign 'Birkenhead Bridge' on VHF Radio, Channel 68 to the Traffic Management Centre of the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI).
This call out service to open the bridge to vessels will apply 7 days a week.
Please note that from this date, any requests for an opening will require two hours advance notice.
DPTI thanks mariners for their patience during these works to revitalise the Port area.
