Port MacDonnell channel speed limit changed

12 Aug 2011

Port MacDonnell A 7 knot speed limit has been implemented for vessels using the marked navigation channel in Port MacDonnell Harbour.

From July 15, 2011 the 7 knot speed limit has applied to all vessels in the marked navigation channel from outside the entrance to the Port MacDonnell Boat Haven to within 100 metres of the boat ramp.

The department reviewed and recommended the change, following requests from industry and consideration of the safety implications of a change from 4 to 7 knots.

A 4 knot speed limit applies in all other areas of the Port MacDonnell Boat Haven. It is important to note that even in the marked channel the 4 knot speed limit applies when within 50 metres of an unpowered vessel such as a canoe or kayak or any person in the water.

For more detail on the Port MacDonnell speed limits see the Notice to Mariners.
