Propeller alerts don't remove driver responsibiliy

13 Dec 2011

speed boat Products now available on the market that show when a propeller is in motion don’t diminish driver responsibility to keep clear of swimmers.

The devices, which are fitted to the rear of a vessel and flash when the propeller is moving, aim to highlight the danger for anyone that maybe swimming close by.

However, the responsibility for avoiding dangerous situations remains with the driver and fitting such devices doesn’t change this.

Moving propellers are a hazard to anyone in the vicinity and extreme care should be taken to avoid anyone in the water.

Swimmers should also use common sense and keep well clear of the water around the propeller when in the water.
