The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) managed jetties and wharves across the state support commercial and recreational boating providing moorings for vessels to load and unload people and cargo. They also provide a fantastic place for people to engage in recreational activities like fishing, scuba diving, snorkelling and swimming.

Boat owners are reminded there are regulations in place around safely mooring at jetties and wharves so they remain a safe shared space for all users. Jetties and wharves can only be used as a mooring to load and unload people and cargo. The operator must stay with the boat while this is happening and move safely away as soon as possible after people or cargo have been loaded or unloaded.

DIT Marine Safety Officers monitor boaters using jetties and wharves as mooring points. They will issue cautions and expiation's to those operators not following mooring regulations.

Please remember if you are boating near a jetty or wharf or need to moor, be aware of other users and always follow the regulations specific to the jetty or wharf. Stay safe on the water.
