Visitors to the Adelaide Boat Show can have their boating questions answered and even sit for their boat licence exam at the Marine Safety display this year.

DPTI's Marine Safety team will be at site 101 as part of the show, which runs from June 28-30, at the Adelaide Convention Centre.

The display will feature information about new speed limits for the Port Adelaide River as well as lifejacket regulations, and Marine Safety Officers will answer questions about any general boating safety matter.

You can also have the chance to win one of five lifejackets by taking part in the Boating Safety Survey, which will help shape future safety education programs and activities.

Boating information sessions will be presented on the stage at 2pm each day, followed by boat licence exams for those who want to participate.

Bookings for the exams are essential and numbers are strictly limited. To book your spot, visit the SA Volunteer Coast Guard stand (next to the DPTI display). Bookings cost $40, or $20 for 12 to 15 year-olds.

Those planning to attempt the boat licence exam should do some learning beforehand by attending one of the daily information sessions, studying the SA Boating Safety Handbook or visiting the On Deck website, where a practice exam is available.

On successful completion of the exam, a licence application form will be endorsed and must then be presented at any Service SA centre, along with proof of age and identity and payment of the $43 licence fee.
