Boating enthusiasts keen to go on the water at night are reminded of the importance of adequate lighting on the vessel.
Lighting is vital for the safety of all those on board as well as other vessels in the water.
It indicates the presence, size, type and direction of a vessel at night or in restricted visibility, to enable others to give way or keep clear when required.
Adequate navigation lighting can also be used to indicate the presence of a vessel, its size and approximate direction.
The type of lights needed, where they should be placed and when they should be used are set out in marine law.
Fines can be issued if these laws are not followed.
