Popeye cradled for maintenance check

03 Jul 2013

One of Adelaide’s Popeye was hoisted above the water on Tuesday to check the condition of her hull.

The partial marine survey of Popeye III was part of safety and maintenance regime that all commercial vessels go through during their time on the water.

Marine surveyors from the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure were able to get under the vessel and check the hull and rudder.

The inspection was possible because of the nearby marine cranes that are being used to build the Riverbank Footbridge.

Previously divers had been sent down to carry out the checks.

The information on the wear and tear of the vessel assists the owner plan future maintenance.
