Closure of Outer Harbor and Grange rail line, 14 April to 24 April, and Gawler rail line, 14 April to 20 April

4 April 2017
The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that the Outer Harbor and Grange rail lines will be temporarily closed from Good Friday 14 April to Monday 24 April 2017 and the Gawler rail line will be temporarily closed between Adelaide and Mawson Lakes from Good Friday 14 April to Thursday 20 April 2017 to allow works to continue for the Torrens Rail Junction Project.
The $238 million joint State and Commonwealth project involves separating the freight and passenger rail lines and removing level crossings at Park Terrace and Gibson Street.
Park Terrace level crossing is amongst South Australia’s worst with more than 160 passenger trains passing through the crossing every weekday. This means the boom gates are down for considerable periods causing frustration, distress and substantial delays for motorist who use this part of the Inner Ring Route.
Removing the boom gates will reduce congestion for the more than 50,000 vehicles which use these crossings every day and deliver other significant benefits including productivity gains for the rail freight industry and improved reliability and travel times for passenger rail services.
The project is supporting 212 jobs a year during construction.
Substitute buses will be provided and will replicate the existing train timetables as closely as practicable.
The timing of these works corresponds with Easter and school holidays and traditionally lower train patronage and traffic on major roads.

- The rail line will be fully closed between Adelaide and Outer Harbor/Grange.
- Passenger train services will be closed from last service on Thursday 13 April 2017 and reopening for first service Anzac Day Tuesday 25 April 2017.

Gawler line
- The Gawler rail line will be closed between Adelaide and Mawson Lakes Station.
- Passenger train services will be closed from last service on Thursday 13 April 2017 and reopening for first service on Friday 21 April 2017.

Signage will be in place at affected train stations and substitute bus stops to direct passengers.
To allow construction of the lowered rail line under Park Terrace at Bowden, speed and lane restrictions will be in place on Park Terrace from Good Friday 14 April to 12pm Wednesday 26 April 2017.
Signage will be in place to advise motorists of the changed traffic conditions and road users are requested to take extra care when workers are on site, and observe traffic signage and restrictions.
Thank you for your patience whilst these important works are undertaken.
