Safety To Be Improved At Innamincka

Works to improve road safety at Innamincka will commence on Thursday, 7 January 2016.

The Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure (DPTI) advises that the works will consist of pavement reconstruction and sealing of all local streets within the Innamincka Township. A one kilometre section of the Strzelecki Track, just south of the town, will also be reconstructed and sealed.

The pavement reconstruction and sealing works will extend the life of the road and improve ride quality and comfort for all road users.

The improvements will provide a range of community benefits including reducing the dust produced by traffic, in particular by heavy vehicles.

Every effort will be made to minimise the impact on road users, with works being undertaken between 7.00am and 5.00pm on weekdays and weekends, over 18 day blocks with 10 day breaks until completed.

The road will remain open, with traffic restricted to one lane under traffic control including a 25 km/h speed restriction while workers are on site. Other speed restrictions may apply subject to onsite conditions.

Works are expected to be completed by the end of March 2016, weather permitting.

The $1 million upgrade is funded by the Australian Government's Roads to Recovery Programme.
