Starting on Thursday, four pedestrian and cyclist crossings along the Seaford rail line undergo upgrades, as part of the South Australian Government’s Railway Crossing Safety Improvement Program.
As part of the Oaklands Crossing Grade Separation project the four pedestrian/cyclist crossings to be upgraded are:
- The Warradale Railway Station crossing, east of the station;
- The Seventh Avenue crossing, west of the Warradale Railway Station;
- The Hove Railway Station crossing, east of the station; and
- The Carlton Street/Johnstone Road crossing.
The Warradale and Hove crossings will be closed for public use from Thursday, 4 April, and the Seventh Avenue crossing from Saturday, 13 April.
All three will re-open as upgraded activated crossings on Monday, 6 May, to coincide with the opening of the new Oaklands Railway Station.
The Carlton Street/Johnstone Road crossing, meanwhile, will be permanently closed from Monday, 8 April, to be replaced by the new pedestrian and cyclist bridge east of the new station (which has been open since December 2018)
During the upgrade works, the Warradale Railway Station subway crossing will remain open, as will the crossing on the western side of the Hove Railway Station (on Brighton Road).
Closure dates and detour signage is being displayed at each crossing and traffic controllers will be on site during work hours to assist pedestrians and cyclists. For further information visit: www.ptpa.com.au/Oaklands
The crossing upgrades are being carried out as part of the Railway Crossing Safety Improvement Program, which has identified crossings for review, upgrade or closure based on factors including safety risk profiles, pedestrian and cyclist counts, crossing history and technical data.
The department reminds passengers that, from mid-April to early May, the Seaford Line will also be partially closed to enable the new Oaklands Railway Station and rail corridor to be connected to the Seaford Line.
