Proposed renaming of Oaklands Railway Station

Tuesday, 18 December 2018

As part of the Oaklands Crossing Project, a proposal has been put forward to rename the Oaklands Railway Station to Marion Centre Railway Station.

The reason behind a proposed name change is so that the station name better aligns with the surrounding shopping, recreational, cultural and administrative centre of the City of Marion. It has also been stated that this proposed change will also assist commuters who do not live in the neighbourhood with a better identification of where the train station servicing this area is located.

A Notice of Intent was published on 6 December 2018 under the provisions of Geographical Names Act, 1991.

How can I have my say?

The publication of the Notice of Intent provides a one month period for public submissions on the proposed name change. You are invited to submit your thoughts on this proposal, either for or against the proposed renaming.

Submissions can be provided via the following avenues only:

Email:

Postal address: Office of the Surveyor-General, GPO Box 1354, Adelaide SA 5001

It is important to note that all submissions will be considered on their merits only, the number of submissions received is not a strong influencing factor, but rather it is the reasons or rational provided in a submission for support or opposition of the proposed name change that will be taken into consideration.

On completion of the submission period, a report and recommendation will be forwarded by the Surveyor-General to the Minister for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure for consideration and decision.
