Safer crossings for pedestrians in Middleton

Thursday, 18 January 2024

Works will soon begin on two new pedestrian crossings on Goolwa Road in Middleton to improve community safety.

The State Government is working in partnership with Alexandrina Council to deliver two new pedestrian crossings. One crossing will be installed between Ocean Road and Alma Place while the second will be installed between Thomas Street and William Street.

These new crossings will create safer pedestrian connections for locals and tourists who frequently use the nearby shops, restaurants and accommodation.

The works will include:

  • Installation of two pedestrian crossings with median islands
  • Kerb ramps for bicycle and wheelchair access
  • Handrailing at each crossing access point
  • New street signage
  • Upgraded street lighting and line marking

Work on the two new pedestrian crossings will begin in mid-February and is expected to be completed in March 2024.

The $398,000 project is jointly funded by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport and Alexandrina Council (95:5).
