The South Australian and Australian governments are improving access for high productivity freight vehicles by bridging the gap between Wilmington and Gladstone with the replacement of the Wild Dog Creek culvert on the Horrocks Highway in the state’s mid-north.
A tender has been released for the construction of a replacement culvert which will cater for PBS Level 3A vehicles, including road trains of up to 36.5 metres in length.
Replacing the culvert with a wider, stronger structure and compliant bridge barriers will provide greater efficiency and improved travel times with adjacent regions.
The new culvert will also increase safety for all road users by reducing the likelihood of a crash occurring and by reducing the severity should a crash occur.
The $4.1 million project is funded by the Australian and South Australian governments, with $3.28 million of funding through the federal Bridges Renewal Program, and $820,000 from the South Australian government.
Work on the Wild Dog Creek culvert is expected to start in April 2023 and be completed in May 2024.
