More than 900 local construction and consultant industry members were briefed today on the economic opportunities that will be unlocked by the state’s record $18.6 billion infrastructure pipeline.
Industry representatives participated in-person at the event—held at the Adelaide Convention Centre—as well as online via a livestream, and heard about future bidding opportunities for current and upcoming projects across the state.
While plans for the North-South Corridor will be progressed in due course, other projects in the pipeline include the $400 million state-federal commitment to grade separation of tram level crossings on Marion Road and Cross Road, the jointly funded $120 million new interchange for the Southern Expressway at Majors Road and a commitment to the full duplication of Main South Road between Seaford and Sellicks Beach.
Social infrastructure projects include the new Women’s and Children’s Hospital and the $220 million new Mount Barker Hospital, as well as a new SES headquarters and emergency operations centre.
The briefing was hosted by the Department for Infrastructure and Transport. For the first time, the event involved a panel Q&A session, giving participants an opportunity to engage directly with key senior departmental staff including Chief Executive Jon Whelan.
The event highlighted key future bidding opportunities, particularly for newly funded projects and election commitments, as well as up-to-date information about some of these projects, delivery models and timeframes.
The department outlined how it has been working to improve planning, procurement and project delivery models so that everyone benefits—from the consultant undertaking project planning and design to the contractor who builds the infrastructure and the communities that use it.
The event demonstrated how the department is delivering on the government’s election commitments including the use of Design and Construct contracts and breaking up high value projects into smaller stages to allow multiple South Australian companies the opportunity to participate.
The department's latest Forward Work Plan of Major Programs was also released today.
