Temporary closure of Sturt Highway junction

Tuesday, 23 August 2022

Sturt Highway will be temporarily closed at the eastern junction with Old Sturt Highway, north of Berri, from 31 August 2022, until mid-September 2022, as part of upgrade works to the junction.

During the temporary closure, a detour for all traffic will be in place until the junction is re-opened in mid-September 2022 (weather permitting). Upon re-opening, the junction will be operating as a single lane roundabout with speed restrictions in place.

The new roundabout is part of upgrades underway to improve safety and traffic efficiency at the junction. Other works include asphalt resurfacing and new line marking, upgraded LED lighting and improved drainage.

Works are being undertaken Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm. Some weekend work may also be required.

Road users are asked to please plan ahead, allow extra travel time and take care when workers are on site. Observe speed limits, lane restrictions and traffic controllers when travelling through the area.

The Sturt Highway and Old Sturt Highway Junction Upgrade (East) is expected to be completed in late 2022, weather permitting.

The works form part of the Australian and South Australian governments $87.5 million commitment to upgrade the Sturt Highway between Renmark and Gawler, as part of the Roads of Strategic Importance program. This commitment also includes an upgrade to the junction of Sturt Highway and Old Sturt Highway (west), with works continuing.

The Sturt Highway Corridor Upgrade extends along a 210 kilometre section of the Sturt Highway, passing the through townships of Nuriootpa, Truro, Blanchetown, Waikerie, Barmera, Berri and Renmark. The program of works includes a range of initiatives to improve safety, freight efficiency and support regional economic growth.
